TOBBA

Hong Kong based art driven niche house translating visual concepts into layered French made fragrances.

About TOBBA

TOBBA is a Hong Kong based fragrance house founded in 2021 by painter turned perfumer Jasper Li together with co founder Adrian Yu. The brand was conceived as a continuation of Li's visual art practice, after he decided to pause his exhibition work and explore perfume as a new medium. Inspired by his mother's vintage perfume collection and early memories of sandalwood fans, wooden scent objects and classic fragrances, Li began to study perfumery for more than seven years before launching the brand.

The name TOBBA is derived from the words tobacco and art, reflecting the founders' intention to connect atmospheric, often smoky fragrance aesthetics with a gallery like approach to storytelling. Based in Hong Kong with production in France, the house positions itself at the intersection of Far Eastern influences and contemporary European perfumery, and has presented its work at international events such as Esxence and Pitti Fragranze. Bottles feature carefully considered packaging informed by Yu's fashion buying background, while Li leads olfactory design and overall creative direction.

TOBBA focuses on compositions that translate visual concepts into scent, using layered structures, contrasting textures and a mix of natural and synthetic ingredients to build depth. The fragrances are designed to be interpreted subjectively, with each perfume treated as a self contained artwork that invites the wearer to project their own memories and associations rather than following a fixed narrative.

Since its launch, TOBBA has gradually expanded distribution beyond Asia, entering European niche retailers and department chains including Boots Fragrance in the UK, while maintaining a curated catalog of creations such as Serendipity and Rose On The Shore. The house continues to emphasize artistic integrity, high quality raw materials and French manufacturing as core pillars of its identity.

Scent DNA

Woody Amber Floral Spicy Oriental
  • TOBBA's scents are recognisable for their painterly layering, often combining smooth woods, resins and spices with nuanced florals to create depth without feeling overcrowded
  • Compositions frequently play with contrast - airy and bright openings that evolve into denser, textured bases - echoing the brand's visual art origins
  • There is a clear thread of memory driven themes, where accords like tobacco, patchouli or incense are used to anchor more abstract ideas to specific atmospheres

Brand Evolution

Since its founding in 2021, TOBBA has moved from local Hong Kong distribution to international niche exposure, presenting at Esxence and partnering with European retailers. Early releases leaned strongly into memory and tobacco tinged atmospheres, while newer compositions explore broader themes like coastal landscapes and urban contrasts. The house has gradually refined its packaging and brand language, positioning itself closer to the luxury niche segment while keeping the core idea of perfume as an extension of visual art. As recognition grows, collaborations with European perfumers and retailers are expanding the stylistic palette without abandoning its Hong Kong roots.

Quick Verdict

TOBBA is a serious, art forward niche house with clear vision and solid execution for a brand founded in 2021. If you like textured, memory driven compositions and want a Hong Kong perspective on modern niche perfumery, it is worth seeking out despite still limited distribution.
