Polished, marketable French classicism - elegant woody-floral and sweet oriental constructions that translate from luxury to mass; less austere than his brother's minimalism.
Bernard Ellena is a senior French perfumer born in Grasse - the historical heart of French perfumery - and the younger brother of Hermes in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena. He trained at Roure Bertrand Dupont, the legendary Grasse fragrance house that produced a generation of post-war noses, then joined Haarmann & Reimer (now Symrise) where he has spent the majority of his career as a senior perfumer. His father Peter Ellena was a perfumer for Chiris; his niece Celine Ellena is also a working perfumer, making him part of one of perfumery's most established families. His output spans designer mainstream (Davidoff The Game, Givenchy Ange Ou Demon Le Secret, Montblanc Legend Pour Femme, Jil Sander Style), luxury (Creed, Van Cleef & Arpels), niche (Amouage Beloved Woman) and accessible mass-market (Avon, Benetton).
