La Via del Profumo
Natural compositions built from identifiable essences, extracts and tinctures, often pairing botanicals and woods with resins, spices or animalic materials. Mecca Balsam is one documented example, with labdanum, benzoin, frankincense, tonka, tuberose and Damask rose.
Dominique Dubrana, also known as AbdesSalaam Attar, is a French-born perfumer who lives and works in Italy. His house, La Via del Profumo, publishes his compositions and materials directly. A 2010 profile in The New York Times describes him as self-taught and records his practice of composing with essences, extracts, tinctures and oils. The same profile identifies natural materials such as rose, jasmine, lavender, labdanum, gaiac wood and agarwood among the materials he uses.
Dubrana's work is closely tied to natural perfumery. Perfume critic Luca Turin has described most of his compositions as natural, and Dubrana's own catalogue presents fragrances shaped by specific materials and personal associations. His documented creations include Hindu Kush and Mecca Balsam. Mecca Balsam was inspired by his Hajj pilgrimage; the reported composition includes labdanum, benzoin, frankincense, tonka, tuberose and Damask rose. Parfumo and Fragrantica also index his work under the names Dominique Dubrana and AbdesSalaam Attar.
The sources reviewed establish his French origin, Italian base, self-taught practice and natural-material focus. They do not establish a formal perfumery-school education or a birth year, so neither is stated here.
