About

Francis Kurkdjian stands as one of the most influential and prolific perfumers of his generation. Born in Paris in 1969 to Armenian parents, Kurkdjian originally pursued ballet before committing to his lifelong fascination with fragrance. He studied at the renowned ISIPCA in Versailles, graduating in 1993, and began his professional journey at Quest International in Paris. Kurkdjian made an immediate impact at just 26, creating the iconic Le Mâle for Jean Paul Gaultier, which became one of the world's top-selling men's fragrances. Over the subsequent decades, he shaped the olfactory identities of major houses such as Dior, Guerlain, Burberry, Narciso Rodriguez, and Elie Saab, while also collaborating with contemporary artists and engaging in ambitious olfactory installations. In 2009, he co-founded Maison Francis Kurkdjian with Marc Chaya, establishing a niche brand celebrated for its artistic vision and innovative spirit. Notably, his creation Baccarat Rouge 540 has achieved cult status and global commercial success. Kurkdjian’s work is highly awarded, including the Prix François Coty for lifetime achievement and the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. In 2021, he was named creative director of perfume at Dior, further cementing his legacy as a visionary blending tradition and modernity.
