Voelkl is known for infusing his creations with deep emotional resonance, blending natural inspirations with innovative accords to craft fragrances that connect on a soulful, visceral level.
Frank Voelkl is a Senior Perfumer at dsm-firmenich, celebrated for his more than two decades of dedication to the fragrance industry. Born and raised in Germany, Voelkl's acute sense of smell was shaped by the evocative scents of his childhood, ranging from barnyard aromas to the freshness of rain at his uncle's farm. He spent his formative years in France and the Netherlands, absorbing the olfactory culture around him, and was influenced by his mother's love for rich chypres and the bold fragrances of 1980s Paris. Voelkl pursued his passion by enrolling at ISIPCA, the esteemed French perfumery school, where he created his first fragrance inspired by tiare flowers, a tribute to his Tahitian wife. Throughout his career, Voelkl has drawn creative inspiration from his travels, particularly the natural abundance of French Polynesia, which he describes as a source of endless olfactory inspiration. His portfolio spans a diverse array of global brands, including Guerlain, Dolce&Gabbana, Hugo Boss, and notably Le Labo, for whom he crafted the cult favorite Santal 33. Voelkl is recognized for his belief in the emotional resonance of scent and strives to create fragrances that evoke happiness and a soulful connection. His thoughtful, exploratory approach and mastery of both natural and synthetic materials have secured his reputation as a modern perfumery adventurer.
