Hironobu Kobayashi

Japan Born 0 J-Scent

Known for concept-driven compositions that translate Japanese cultural motifs and everyday scenes into subtle, wearable fragrances, often highlighting quiet, nostalgic moods rather than bold statements. His style for J-Scent frequently explores soft gourmands, woods and musks with unexpected accords (e.g., roasted green tea, sake-cherry blossom, tatami), maintaining a refined, understated character.

About

Hironobu Kobayashi is a Japanese perfumer and founder of the niche fragrance house J-Scent, established in 2015 in Japan. Multiple retailers and editorial features describe him as the in-house perfumer responsible for designing the J-Scent collection, which is built around everyday Japanese moments, traditions and sensory experiences such as steamed rice, tatami mats, and neighborhood walks. His work for J-Scent includes the Profound collection, where he composed Sacred Animal, an amber vanilla fragrance released in 2024 and inspired by the Tenko fox legend, formulated to be animal-free yet warmly animalic.
