Sources describe Ermenidis as a "philosopher perfumer" who draws heavily on art, opera and abstract, conceptual ideas as olfactory starting points. He favors luminous, diffusive structures built around modern aroma molecules such as Hedione and Ambrox, which he has called "the sexiest molecule alive," often combining them with sensual woods and musks to create airy yet long-lasting compositions. His work frequently reflects a Mediterranean sensibility, balancing warmth and freshness while maintaining transparency.
Ilias Ermenidis is a Greek perfumer, born in Istanbul/Constantinople and raised in Athens, who studied perfumery at ISIPCA in Versailles before beginning his training at Créations Aromatiques in Paris. He joined Firmenich in Geneva in 1986 and worked as a fine fragrance perfumer in Firmenich Paris from 1988 to 1995, later spending about 25 years based in New York as a Firmenich principal perfumer. In 2019 he returned to Europe to serve as Principal Perfumer at the Firmenich (now dsm-firmenich) Fine Fragrance Creative Center in Paris. Ermenidis has authored fragrances for major brands including Gucci, Givenchy and Vera Wang and created Purple Suede for Australian niche house Goldfield & Banks. He often describes himself as a "philosopher perfumer" and draws inspiration from art, opera and diverse cultural influences.
