James Bell was an American perfumer who spent nearly five decades at Givaudan, rising to vice president and senior perfumer. He composed Guess Original for Guess, launched in 1990, and worked on the Michael Jordan fragrance. Bell received awards from the American Society of Perfumers, including the William P. Lambert Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2001, Givaudan endowed the Jim Bell/Givaudan Creative Fragrance Development Certificate Program at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
