About

Jean-Christophe Hérault is a senior perfumer at International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) based in Paris, France. Growing up near the heart of the French fragrance industry, Hérault's interest in perfumery was sparked in his youth, particularly after receiving a bottle of Joop! for Men. He went on to study chemistry at university and gained hands-on experience during an internship at a Grasse laboratory, where he became truly enamored with the world of scent. A pivotal moment in his career came when he met the legendary Pierre Bourdon, who agreed to mentor him under the condition that he expand his knowledge beyond perfumery to include art, literature, cuisine, and culture. Hérault's career encompasses a wide range of acclaimed creations, from early works such as Canali Men and Grès My Dream to globally recognized blockbusters like Creed Aventus, Balenciaga Florabotanica, Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Extreme, and Dolce & Gabbana The One for Men Eau de Parfum Intense. He is known for his evocative and passionate approach, favoring ingredients that resonate emotionally and often working with smoky, leathery accords. Hérault has also experimented with artificial intelligence in fragrance creation, though he maintains that human intuition remains essential. Today, he is esteemed as one of the most talented perfumers of his generation, with a portfolio that reflects both versatility and a distinct artistic vision.
