Kerosene
Pegg focuses on bold yet wearable compositions he describes as raw, unique and approachable. His style often references real-life atmospheres drawn from Midwestern and industrial settings, using pronounced woods, resins and gourmand or smoky elements rather than delicate florals. Fragrances like R’oud Elements and Blackmail show his preference for dark, slightly rough-around-the-edges structures with a clear, memorable signature rather than conventional designer-style blends.
John Pegg is an American self-taught perfumer and the founder of the independent brand House of Kerosene. Born and raised in St. Clair, Michigan, he worked various factory jobs in the local automotive industry before turning to perfume creation around 2011. His debut fragrance was R’oud Elements, launched in 2011 under the Kerosene name, and he has since composed more than twenty scents for the brand, including creations such as Blackmail for Austin’s Blackmail Boutique. Pegg still lives and works in Michigan, drawing heavily on Midwestern industrial and everyday atmospheres as inspiration, and sells Kerosene fragrances through niche retailers worldwide.
