Natura
Concept-led artisan perfumery - narrative compositions built around natural materials, sitting between olfactory art and small-batch niche.
Klara Ravat is a Spanish (Catalan) olfactory artist, experimental filmmaker and perfumer based in Berlin. After studying qualitative trend research in Barcelona, she relocated to the Netherlands and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in ArtScience from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague while simultaneously studying Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia. Her practice positions scent outside the traditional perfume bottle, treating it as material for installations, films and live experiences rather than as a finished consumer product. She is the co-founder and director of Smell Lab in Berlin, a platform for olfactory art and inter-disciplinary practice, and in 2017 she co-produced the inaugural Experimental Scent Summit with the Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles. She has held artist residencies including Mediamatic Biotoop in Amsterdam (2016-17), where she ran scented workshops and developed her ongoing investigations into smell and memory, and she serves as a judge for the Art and Olfaction Awards. Her commercial perfumery is deliberately limited and concept-led. Her first commercial release was Out of the Blue (2018) for the Amsterdam denim label Hardeman, developed after meeting designer Sophie Hardeman through the WOW Amsterdam programme. She also composed Humor 1 (2006) for Brazilian house Natura. Her signature is an artist's nose - small-batch, narrative-driven compositions built around natural raw materials and the conceptual brief rather than mass-market briefs.
