Bosetti Tonatto is known for creating “olfactory portraits” that interpret historical figures, artworks and places through smell, including fragrances inspired by churches in Rome and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. She often works from literary, artistic and ecclesiastical references, translating them into nuanced incense, rose and resinous accords. Her formulas are developed in her Roman studio, scaled in Grasse, then finished without added dyes in her Verona laboratory, reflecting a strongly artisanal, small‑batch approach.
Laura Bosetti Tonatto is an Italian independent perfumer and brand founder based in Turin and Rome. She has worked as a professional nose since 1986, creating perfumes for major cosmetic companies and bespoke mélanges, and is frequently cited as the first perfume maker in Italy to offer custom‑made fragrances. In 2003 she began creating tailor‑made fragrance collections for prestigious hotels; Wallpaper magazine singled out her scent for the Park Hyatt Milan as one of the best hotel fragrances. Since October 2006 she has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Ferrara’s Faculty of Pharmacy on the Master’s program in Cosmetic Science and Technology, teaching “Perfumes: Art and Production” and “Aromacology”. She developed an exclusive, confidential fragrance for Queen Elizabeth II after being commissioned by the royal entourage, and has also produced ecclesiastically inspired scents for the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. Her own line, Essenzialmente Laura, offers around 55 perfumes and hundreds of related products, all formulated by her and produced in her lab in Verona after essences are manufactured in Grasse to her registered formulas.
