About

Mathilde Thomas is the French co-founder of the skincare brand Caudalie, which she created with her husband Bertrand Thomas in 1995 on her family’s vineyard, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, in Bordeaux. Earlier, she studied to become a perfume “nose” in Nice, France, and completed a first internship at L’Oréal Spain at age 15, working for the Cacharel team when Anaïs Anaïs was a key fragrance in the portfolio. Inspired by a 1993 meeting with Professor Joseph Vercauteren of the Université de Montpellier about grape byproducts, she developed Caudalie’s first products using grape seed polyphenols and later co-created an international network of Caudalie Vinothérapie Spas that combine natural hot spring water with grape and vine extracts.
