Jamal Perfumers London
Eastern attar tradition joined to modern British perfumery. Rich, evocative natural materials in tuberose, rose and oud, and aromatic leather, tobacco and spice. Alcohol-free attar scents are the house's speciality.
Mohammed Jamal is the second-generation chemist and master perfumer who leads and manages Jamal Perfumers in England. The house was established in 1980 by Ismaeel and Aamenah Jamal, Indian perfumers who arrived in the UK from Nyasaland, and is known for bespoke alcohol-free attar scents. It describes itself as the only perfumery in the UK specialising in the craft. No training route is documented beyond the house's own description of its leader as a chemist and master perfumer.
A presenter biography describes a return to the family business and a brand heritage that is proudly British and specifically London. Companies House lists Mohammed Sadik Jamal, a British national, as the director of Jamal London Ltd since 31 August 2012; the company's registered activity is the manufacture of perfumes and toilet preparations.
The house's aim is to keep the attar tradition alive and combine it with modern-day perfumery. Its four scents are numbered. Scent 642 is a tuberose scent with lemon, neroli, orange flower and jasmine over cedarwood, amber and musk. Scent 301 is aromatic and leathery, with bergamot, lavender, geranium, tobacco and oakmoss. Scent 935 pairs rose and oud with plum and raspberry, and Scent 774 is an amber and saffron scent with orris butter and sandalwood. Fragrance databases credit Jamal with four perfumes.
The style is a fusion of eastern perfumery tradition and British modern composition: richly evocative natural materials, floral, woody and spiced, in an attar-led house.
