Each fragrance is based on one of his paintings and often draws on Cuban themes; Havana Rain is a gourmand with orange, mint and ginger over coffee, chocolate and vanilla, while Oud Rain Tropical Storm pairs tropical fruit with Cambodian oud, saffron and tobacco.
About
Renier R. Mendez is a Cuban-born perfumer and visual artist, the third generation of a family of artists, and the founder of Renier Perfumes, a brand registered in Prague. By his own account he could not study perfumery in Cuba, so after moving to Europe he taught himself by studying raw materials, with advice from master perfumers. The brand says he began working with perfumer Daniel Josier and builds each fragrance around one of his own paintings. His catalogue is organised into the Rain, Taino, Caprichos and Special Editions collections. Havana Rain was inspired by his earlier limited edition Habana 500.
