Spyros Drosopoulos is a self-taught perfumer and the founder of BARUTI Perfumes, established after he registered his own brand around 2012 following several years of independent study and experimentation with perfume materials. Born in the Netherlands, raised in Greece and educated in Germany, he originally pursued an academic career in neuroscience, completing a PhD on sleep and memory consolidation and later working as a post-doc and teaching assistant at the University of Amsterdam. An introductory perfume-making course in 2009 led him to leave academia and focus fully on perfumery, creating artisanal fragrances under the BARUTI label and offering bespoke perfumes and scent performances from the Netherlands and Greece. He also works as an in-house perfumer for Delush, consults for the AI fragrance start-up Scentronix, and teaches perfumery intensives with the Institute for Art and Olfaction, including in-person courses in Athens and Spain.
