Borsalino
Borsalino is the Italian hat maker founded in 1857, and for most of the twentieth century its name was simply shorthand for a properly made felt fedora. The company still operates from Valenza in Piedmont, and felt and straw hats remain the core of the business alongside caps, bags and sunglasses. Fragrance is a return rather than a new idea: the house re-entered perfumery in 2025 with Black Iris, produced under licence by DPLG, the licensing arm of Perfume Street, which also handles Jean Reno and Diane von Furstenberg. Black Iris was created by Chantal Roos, the figure behind Opium and Le Male, working with dsm-firmenich perfumer Nicolas Bonneville, and it was joined by White Iris as the feminine half of a B&W pairing. Both lean on iris as the signature material and on a restrained, tailored register that suits the hats rather than chasing trends. UK distribution runs through The Fragrance Shop at around GBP 69 for 50ml.
