British sleep and wellness brand, with scents designed to ease the move from a busy day to a calm evening

About This Works

This Works is a British wellness and skincare brand built on the idea that the body runs on a 24-hour clock, with sleep at the centre of it.

It was founded in London in 2003 by Kathy Phillips, then beauty director of Vogue UK. It is best known for the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, a blend of lavender, camomile and vetivert that has sold more than ten million bottles. The range has since grown into bath, body and skincare products matched to the time of day, and is led by chief executive Dr Anna Persaud, a biochemist. The brand has changed hands more than once and is now owned by a UK investment firm. In late 2025 it entered fine fragrance with Own Time, an eau de parfum created with the Givaudan perfumer Julie Noé.

Scent at This Works is functional first. The sleep line leans on calming herbal and woody materials, and Own Time carries the same thinking into a woody, ambery and aromatic perfume built on sandalwood, pink pepper and cardamom. It is soft, close to the skin and made for the evening rather than for making an entrance.

The brand is mainstream and easy to find, sold through its own website and through Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Space NK. It sits closer to wellness-led beauty than to a perfume house, so it suits people who come to it for calm and sleep and want a fragrance that fits the same routine. Own Time is its first fine fragrance, and the brand has said more scents are in development.

Brand Evolution

Started as a skincare line tied to a 24-hour routine and became best known for sleep, with the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray at its core. It widened into bath and body care, and in late 2025 into a fine fragrance made for the evening, with more functional scents said to be in development.

Quick Verdict

A mainstream wellness brand to know for calm, sleep-minded scent, with a first fine fragrance that is soft, woody and easy to wear. Best approached as wellness-led beauty rather than a perfume house.
