British Perfume Brands
British perfume sells into a growing home market: prestige beauty in Britain keeps expanding, and fragrance becomes the last-minute gift every Christmas. British shoppers buy more of their prestige beauty online than the French or the Germans, yet perfume still draws them into shops to smell before they buy. The British houses below include Penhaligon's, Burberry, Thomson Carter and Jo Malone London.

The perfume market in the United Kingdom
The UK has been one of Europe's growth markets for prestige beauty, alongside Spain and Italy, Circana's figures show, and beauty kept growing through a tough economy. More than half of British prestige beauty is now bought online, far more than in France.
Perfume is different. Fragrance sales grow in department stores and other shops as people go in to discover new scents, the trade group CEW UK reports, and the Christmas rush is remarkable: in week 52 of 2024 fragrance sales rose 97%.

Questions about perfume from the United Kingdom
How big is the UK prestige beauty market?
CEW UK, citing Circana, put British prestige beauty sales at £4bn in 2024, up 10% on the year before, and prestige beauty grew another 8% in 2025. Fragrance is one of its strongest categories, above all at Christmas.
Do people in the UK buy beauty online?
Yes, more than the French or the Germans do: over half of UK prestige beauty sales were made online in 2025, against 46% in Germany and 18% in France, according to Circana. Shops still matter for perfume, though, because people like to discover a new scent in person, CEW UK reports.
Which houses count as being from the United Kingdom?
Those based there, as recorded on each brand page, whatever their tier: designer, niche and independent, Arabian or anything else. A house whose country we have not recorded appears on no country page, and a house is listed once it has at least one published perfume.
