The perfume market in India
Beauty retailers such as Nykaa and Reliance's Tira report strong premium fragrance sales. A senior Titan executive put the market at about ₹4,500 crore in December 2024 and said premium and luxury perfume had grown in value, though he added that rising prices could explain some of that.
Alongside the imports runs an old trade in attar, a perfume oil usually distilled into a wood base such as sandalwood and aged, rather than mixed with alcohol. Kannauj is a market centre for perfume and rose water, and its traditional Kannauj Perfume is a protected geographical indication. Attar is also sold in the bazaars of Delhi and Mumbai.
