Esxence

Esxence, formally the International Alternative Perfume Exhibition, has run in Milan since 2009 and is the closest thing niche and artistic perfumery has to a flagship trade fair. Its most recent edition (3-6 June 2026) drew more than 400 exhibiting brands and around 20,000 visitors to the Allianz MiCo convention centre, with houses ranging from established niche names to first-time independent perfumers using the fair to launch into the European market. The next edition is scheduled for 24-27 February 2027, moving the show onto Milan's fashion-week calendar - a scheduling shift worth double-checking closer to the date.

Access is mixed rather than purely closed-door. Trade days are reserved for industry professionals and press accreditation, but recent editions have added a single ticketed public day (around 25 euros via Vivaticket) so enthusiasts can attend without a trade badge. Around the expo floor runs a full calendar of talks, workshops and "Fuori Esxence" satellite events across Milan, extending the fair into the wider city rather than confining it to one hall.

For a UK reader, Esxence isn't somewhere to expect privileged access - it is the industry's own showcase, and most of what's shown will reach specialist UK retailers and ScentVerdict's own dossiers within a year or two regardless. Its real value is seeing the full breadth of independent perfumery in one place, from tiny debut houses to established niche names, rather than the curated slice any single UK stockist carries. Treat it as a research trip for the seriously fragrance-obsessed, not a casual day out.
