Kabosu
Note Profile
About
Sour lemony peel with a resinous edge
Scent Profile
Kabosu opens sour and tangy, like lemon peel with a squeeze of lime juice. The top is sharp and acidic, almost like vinegar. Behind it sits a bitter-orange body with a resinous, pine-sap edge. A faint floral trace shows as it fades.

Origin
Kabosu is the peel oil of Citrus sphaerocarpa, a sour Japanese citrus grown mostly in Oita prefecture. The oil is cold-pressed or distilled from the peel and sold by trade houses such as Berjé and Hermitage Oils. Takasago reports a peel oil rich in straight-chain aldehydes (octanal, decanal, dodecanal) and low in linalool.
Usage in Perfumery
Perfumers use it as a top note for a sour, tangy citrus opening. Hermitage Oils says it gives top note effects in rose, gardenia and magnolia accords. It blends with bergamot, bitter orange and grapefruit.
