Amelia Rose

Amelia Rose is a London perfumer and the founder of Faux Rose, an independent fragrance house built around boudoir imagery, vintage erotica and the idea of feminine artifice. Her three debut perfumes, Faux Rose, Dauphine and Viva Maria, appeared in 2025.

Rose came to perfume from fashion. She worked in fashion design under Ashley Williams, Claire Barrow and Jeremy Scott, and as a stylist for Vivienne Westwood. Her way into scent was a short job at a morgue, where the smell was so intense that she became obsessed with scent and with the physical reactions it can cause. That led her to research perfumes that echo bodily fluids and, in her words, to knowing she did not want to work on anything else. She has not named a perfumery school or apprenticeship. She describes working the way she once designed collections: she starts with visual research, matches perfume materials to those references, and compounds formulas by trial and error.

Faux Rose scents are made entirely by hand. She also works part time at Ram Books, an erotica bookshop in North London, and says the vintage glamour and erotica there shape the brand. Her stated starting point for the whole range is the Vivienne Westwood perfume Boudoir: powdery, animalic and visual. The three debut scents are presented as one boudoir triptych, studies in hyper-femininity and eroticism, each an intimate scene rather than a single note. Viva Maria, for example, is about lovers on a road trip from Rome to the Calabrian coast, with jasmine and crushed seashells.

Her perfumes lean on powder, musk, rose and lactonic warmth, and the pictures and stories that go with them are as much a part of the work as the formulas.
