She is best known for cool, fresh lily-of-the-valley perfumes, Landysh serebristy and Lesnoy landysh, built from natural oils and synthetic materials to imitate the flower's scent. Sources describe the forest version as a delicate, cool scent.
Bella Lvovna Goutzeit (Bella Guttsait) was a Soviet perfumer at the Leningrad perfumery factory later known as Severnoe Siyanie (Northern Lights). She trained as a chemist and joined the factory in the 1930s. After the war she led its perfume laboratory and became chief perfumer, and she kept working there until she retired. She is credited with Landysh serebristy (Silver Lily of the Valley), Lesnoy landysh (Forest Lily of the Valley), Dushistyi tabak, Opera and Belaya akatsiya, and with Belaya siren (White Lilac) jointly with I. G. Volfson. She also passed her experience on to younger Leningrad perfumers such as Marina Somova and Valentina Zananyants.
