The 34 facets
The facets are the coordinate system. Every note carries a position across all 34, and a perfume's position is the weighted aggregate of its notes. Each one below has its own page: what it smells like, where it stops, the materials that carry it, and the notes that load on it.
What an anchor is
A facet on its own is just a word we chose. What makes it checkable is that it resolves to terms in an external, independently maintained vocabulary of odour descriptions - one built for perfumery materials rather than for us.
Each facet lists its direct anchors, which mean that facet outright, and its partial anchors, which lean that way but also load elsewhere. "Sandalwood" is a direct anchor for Creamy Wood. "Creamy" is a partial one, because it also pulls towards Vanilla.
Where this is honest about itself
The anchor counts are not decoration. 7 of the 34 facets rest on two or fewer direct terms, and those are the ones most likely to move when the mapping is revised or a better source is found. They are flagged in place rather than averaged away.
One further limit worth stating: the source vocabulary records which terms apply to a material, not how strongly. It can tell us a material is mossy and woody; it cannot tell us which dominates. That is why our own model carries the weights, and why anchoring corroborates the vocabulary rather than replacing the measurement.

What sits behind these pages
Every facet page is built from live rows rather than from copy typed into markup: 11,618 material-to-facet attachments across the 34, each keyed by a CAS registry number so it can be checked against the source vocabulary directly. What remains to be added is a generated texture per facet, and the note-to-material edges that will let a facet page show which substances a given note is actually realised by.
