Betty Busse is an American perfumer who began her career at International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), where she also received her perfumery education, before later working with Créations Aromatiques. She is best known for composing Chloé (Parfums Chloé) for designer Karl Lagerfeld, launched in 1975, widely cited with her as the nose. In the 1970s she also created fragrances for Prince Matchabelli’s Aviance line and for Estée Lauder (including Estée Super), Rudi Gernreich and Rivage, work that earned her high-level awards within the fragrance industry and the nickname “the million dollar nose” in that era.
