Caroline Dumur is known for her bold, intuitive, and textured compositions, often exploring excessive, dark, and mysterious associations and drawing inspiration from her personal affinity for certain materials.
Caroline Dumur is a French perfumer whose passion for scent was ignited during her childhood on her grandparents' farm in Northern France, where she was surrounded by the evocative aromas of flowers, cheese, hay, and animals. Growing up, she absorbed and treasured the olfactive impressions of the perfumes worn by the women in her life, while her parents, both editors, introduced her to the history and biographies of master perfumers. This environment fostered her fascination with perfumery and inspired her to pursue a career in the field. Caroline studied chemistry with a specialization in fragrance and flavors before attending ISIPCA, where she earned her Master’s Degree. She joined IFF, where she has distinguished herself through her intuitive and discerning approach to composition, often drawing inspiration from her affinity for specific materials and her willingness to embrace challenging, dark, and mysterious associations. Her creative process is marked by a desire to interpret each idea in her own way, using personal perceptions to craft fragrances imbued with emotion and color. Caroline’s portfolio spans a broad range of brands, including Chloé, Rabanne, Masque Milano, and Bastille Parfums, and her love for warm, freshly distilled ingredients continues to drive her work. She is recognized for her high aspirations and her belief in aiming for excellence, encapsulated in her motto: "aim for the moon; even if you miss, you'll reach the stars."
