MIND GAMES
Laprade explicitly describes her style as “trash-glam,” built on strong contrasts: refined versus raw, masculine versus feminine. In Commodity Milk she balances sweet, cozy gourmand notes with deep woods and smoky, charred facets, creating an opposition of soft, milky textures against tougher, darker elements. Her work often plays with dualities and tension rather than purely smooth, blended accords.
Christelle Laprade is a French perfumer born in 1976 in Sanary-sur-Mer, in the Var region of France. She began formal perfumery studies in 1997 at ISIPCA, the Versailles perfumery school. After an internship at Dragoco in New York, she joined Expressions Parfumées in Grasse in 2000, then moved to Mane USA in New Jersey in 2003. Since 2006 she has been a perfumer at Symrise’s New York studio, where she has created fine fragrances for brands ranging from niche houses to large international clients. She describes her personal olfactory concept as “trash-glam,” a deliberate play on dualities such as sophistication vs. crudeness and masculine vs. feminine. Laprade is the creator of Commodity Milk and the CK One Reflections flanker for Calvin Klein, and has also worked on lines for Mind Games and other brands.
