Marissa Zappas is an independent perfumer, scent designer and poet based in New York City, where she has lived and worked as a freelancer since 2017. She is the founder of her own fragrance brand, Marissa Zappas LLC, through which she releases her personal perfume collection and collaborates with designers, brands and artists on perfumes, candles and other scent projects. In 2022 she launched the Redamance collection, named after “redamancy,” meaning the act of loving in return. Zappas is also co‑founder of Gumamina, a side project created with fellow independent perfumer Courtney Rafuse of Universal Flowering, launched in December 2023. Her work frequently involves collaborations with New York City artists and writers and is distributed via niche retailers such as Ministry of Scent, LuckyScent and Sainte Cellier.
