Miguel Matos
Often described as ultra‑niche and experimental, Miguel Matos builds many of his fragrances on vintage‑inspired structures that he deliberately twists with unconventional accords. His compositions frequently juxtapose high and low scent references and may incorporate animalic or industrial facets, aiming for bold contrasts rather than classical polish.
About
Miguel Matos is a Portuguese perfumer, writer and scent curator. He has been part of the Fragrantica editorial team since 2013, known there for his detailed reviews, and later moved into composing fragrances himself. Sarah Baker Perfumes was the first brand to release one of his own formulas with Jungle Jezebel, followed by a commission from Turkish niche house Nishane. He also creates under his own label Miguel Matos Perfumes, an ultra‑niche brand whose first releases appeared in 2018. Matos works independently from a small lab and showroom in Almada, Portugal, under the company .C De La Niche, and has been recognized by institutions such as the Fragrance Foundation, the Perfumed Plume Awards and the Art and Olfaction Awards for his contributions to perfume writing and creation.
