Heavier amber, rose and oud statement compositions in Arabian tradition
Mushtaque Anfar Ali (also spelled Mostaque) is the second-generation head of the Anfar perfume dynasty and the chairman of Oudh Al Anfar, the Dubai-based oud and Arabian fragrance house his parents Haji Anfar Ali and Samsun Nehar Anfar Ali founded in Assam, India in 1950. Educated and trained in the agarwood and Dehn al Oudh trade under his parents' direct guidance, he broke the family business into the Arabian Peninsula in 1995, relocated to Dubai in 2003, and built a multi-country GCC retail footprint that today distributes to more than thirty countries. As an in-house perfumer he composes for the Anfar London line, the family's modern Oriental-French branch. His credited work tends toward the brand's more dramatic, statement-piece releases: Rouge Elixir, Rojo Levante, Azule Elite, Royal Imperial, and The Jewel of Paradise. The throughline across these is a louder, denser style than the lighter contemporary releases his son Abdullah leads, with heavier amber, rose and oud constructions in the Arabian tradition he was raised on. Mushtaque became something of a public figure in 2021 when he chartered a private flight from Hojai, Assam back to Dubai during COVID flight restrictions to protect the family business, a story that ran in Gulf News, Gulf Today and South Asia Monitor. He holds a UAE Golden Visa.
