About
Grisalva is an IFF captive, a reaction product of an ionone-type ketone with propargyl alcohol. IFF calls it the character of ambergris in a single chemical of remarkable strength, diffusive and long lasting. It carries soft animalic ambery tones, smooth leather and blond woody facets.
Scent Profile
Amber_resinous leads, and both sources put it first. IFF calls it the character of ambergris captured in a single chemical. Animalic is IFF's own word, twice, and Premiere Peau's faint trace of skin. Dry_woody covers IFF's blond woody facets and Premiere Peau's woody-driftwood quality, supported by the direct comparison that it is more woody than Cetalox. Leather is IFF's smooth leather. Clean_musk is the soft creamy clean persistent quality IFF quotes. Aquatic_ozonic is held rather than zero because Premiere Peau says less marine than ambergris, which is a reduction and not an absence.

Origin
Synthetic. Made by IFF and listed in its Ingredients Compendium as 1-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-yl)-3-pentanone, reaction products with 2-propyn-1-ol.
Usage in Perfumery
Used as an ambergris substitute where a dry, skin-warm amber is wanted rather than a clean radiant one. IFF names oriental accords. Premiere Peau places it between Ambrox and Cetalox in the same brief.
