About

Grisalva is an IFF captive, a reaction product of an ionone-type ketone with propargyl alcohol. IFF calls it the character of ambergris in a single chemical of remarkable strength, diffusive and long lasting. It carries soft animalic ambery tones, smooth leather and blond woody facets.

Scent Profile

Grisalva is built to capture the character of ambergris in a single material, warm and resinous. A soft animal warmth runs underneath, with a blond, dry woody facet next to it. A smooth leather note sits in the middle, and a clean, soft musk gives it a persistent, skin-like base. It carries less of a marine, salty edge than natural ambergris.

Synthetic. Made by IFF and listed in its Ingredients Compendium as 1-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-yl)-3-pentanone, reaction products with 2-propyn-1-ol.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as an ambergris substitute where a dry, skin-warm amber is wanted rather than a clean radiant one. IFF names oriental accords. Premiere Peau calls it less radiant than Ambrox and more woody than Cetalox.
