FZOTIC Lampblack is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2013, created by Bruno Fazzolari. Lampblack opens with Orange, Grapefruit, and Pepper, settles into a heart of Cypriol Oil or Nagarmotha, and dries down to a base of Vetiver and Benzoin. FZOTIC's Lampblack carries a Favourite verdict, a woody-led wear.

A dry, inky grapefruit-and-nagarmotha woody with a peppery lift. Strange in a good way, very wearable, and the scent that made the house. Easy to wear, hard to pin down.

Timeline

Showing: Overall Blend

Top, heart and base are the pyramid as published, not a timing claim. Each note's timing follows its listed tier, where it usually sits across many published pyramids (from ScentPrism) and its vapour pressure. A note comes through as the notes usually listed before it fade, judged from how other pyramids order the same pair. The thickness of a ribbon shows the note's share of what is left on the skin, which tracks how strongly it smells, because odour thresholds rise with vapour pressure. The shares come from how prominent wearers vote each note. It is a simple model, not a measurement.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Autumn
Also Works:
Spring Winter

Grapefruit and pepper keep it fresh enough for spring, while the dry roots and resins suit autumn best. It is too dark and earthy to be a peak-summer pick.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Office Casual
Also Works:
Date Formal

Its dry, quiet woodiness is easy to wear to work and fine for smart-casual evenings. It is less natural for sport or a very romantic date.

About

Lampblack was the first FZOTIC scent and is still the house's best seller. The idea is a printmaker's studio, where dark ink meets bright light, and the scent follows it closely. Bright grapefruit and black pepper open the scent, then nagarmotha takes over. Nagarmotha is a dry, earthy root that smells a little like ink and wet stone, and here it gives the whole scent its sombre, rubbery centre. Vetiver and benzoin sit underneath and keep the dark side calm rather than heavy. Wearers describe it as both difficult to read and very easy to wear. One compares its feel to a Comme des Garcons scent, with a dark core and sparkling motes of light around it. It is not sweet and not loud, and it suits people who like their citrus dry and a little odd. It works through most of the year and at most dress levels. It is a good first FZOTIC for anyone who likes woody scents with an artistic edge.
