Les Gourmandises de Luna begins fresh and turns edible. Pear and grapefruit open it, juicy and a little tart, with the bitter edge of the grapefruit stopping the pear from getting too soft. Coconut and peony take the heart, creamy against pale and airy, a pairing that feels light and sweet together. Then caramel arrives in the base, thick and golden, with sandalwood underneath to keep it from sliding into pure candy. Strength and wear are middling, so it holds for an afternoon and lingers as a gentle sweetness. Despite the fruit it is cooler weather that suits it best, winter and autumn, where the caramel is cosy. It works for casual days and dates, but it is too sugary for formal events or the office.
