Composition One

Perfume Parlour Composition One is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2010. Composition One opens with Plum, Bitter Orange, and Cardamom, settles into a heart of Lily Of The Valley, Rose, Tuberose, and Ylang-Ylang, and dries down to a base of Incense, Cedar, Guaiac Wood, and Sandalwood. Perfume Parlour's Composition One carries a Favourite verdict, a floral-led wear.

Perfume Parlour's budget version of Amouage Opus I, the refined floral chypre. It captures the bitter-orange-and-plum opening and the lush ylang-tuberose heart over smoky woods, but reads simpler and flatter than the famously seamless, 12-hour original, with noticeably shorter wear.

About

Composition One follows Amouage's Opus I: a striking opening of bitter orange and plum spiked with cardamom, contrasting bright and a little jammy. The heart blooms into a lush floral chypre - dominant ylang-ylang and creamy tuberose with rose, jasmine and lily of the valley - sophisticated and full. The drydown is woody and resinous: incense, guaiac wood, Virginia cedar, sandalwood, vetiver and papyrus with a touch of tonka. Against the niche original, the PP take traces the structure faithfully but renders the seamless, expensive blend more simply and 2D, losing some of the smooth depth and the contrast of that great bitter-bigarade top. Opus I was a 12-hour powerhouse of restraint; this dupe projects more modestly and fades considerably sooner. A refined, smoky-floral chypre for cooler-weather formal wear and elegant evenings.
