Sensible Elixir opens with a burst of tart grapefruit quickly swallowed by a spice cloud of cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg, faithfully echoing the bold start of Sauvage Elixir. The heart is dominated by aromatic lavender - fresh, herbal and a touch sweet - before the base brings the signature licorice with its anise-sweet edge, wrapped in creamy sandalwood, dry vetiver, earthy patchouli and warm amber. As a dupe it captures the dark, spicy-commanding spirit of its muse in outline, but the divergence is real: where the original is a famous projection monster, this wears flatter and closer to the skin with moderate longevity rather than the genuine elixir's all-day, room-filling power.
