Vintage Essence opens with a heady, boozy rush - grainy sweet wheat and fruity, liquorous davana that conjures cracking open a bottle of aged single malt, the unmistakable signature of By Kilian's Old Fashioned (2024). The heart turns syrupy and warm with honeyed immortelle and a dry cedar, lending an oriental-fougere depth. The base settles into resinous tolu balsam and smoky-sweet styrax for a nostalgic, ambery finish. Perfume Parlour's interpretation captures Old Fashioned's whiskey-accord warmth and that vivid distillery vibe convincingly, but it reads a fraction flatter and more linear than the niche original, the boozy opening thinner and less bombastic and the resinous drydown less plush. Longevity is moderate rather than the powerhouse staying power Kilian's loudest Liquor can deliver. The effect stays cozy and grown-up - a boozy, gourmand-leaning warm scent best for autumn and winter evenings, worn casually or on cool-night dates.
