Scentleys Black Aoud is an Eau de Parfum. Black Aoud opens with Mandarin, settles into a heart of Patchouli and Rose, and dries down to a base of Musk, Oud, and Labdanum. Scentleys's Black Aoud carries a Statement verdict, a rose-led wear.

Scentleys' version of Montale's Black Aoud (2006) - the dark, smoky rose-oud powerhouse, softened into a lighter, shorter-wearing rose-wood blend.

About

Black Aoud is Scentleys' interpretation of Montale's Black Aoud, a dark and resinous rose-oud composition built around mandarin, rose, patchouli, and a smoky agarwood accord with famously huge projection and longevity. The dupe keeps the rose-oud skeleton - citrus top, rose-patchouli heart, oud-musk base - but the oud reads noticeably lighter and less smoky-resinous than Montale's dense, room-filling original, and the rose is softer and sweeter rather than dark and brooding. The result is a pleasant, wearable rose-wood scent rather than the polarising, statement-making original. Performance sits at four to six hours of moderate sillage, a fraction of Black Aoud's legendary near-24-hour staying power. A sensible entry point for the rose-oud category for anyone who finds Montale's original too intense for daily wear, best suited to cooler-weather evenings and dates.
