Scentleys Orchid Noir is an Extrait de Parfum. Orchid Noir opens with Truffle, Bergamot, Ylang-Ylang, and Blackcurrant, settles into a heart of Spicy, Gardenia, and Orchid, and dries down to a base of Dark Chocolate, Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Vanilla. Scentleys's Orchid Noir carries an Acquired verdict, a woody-led wear.

Orchid Noir reaches for the dark floral-chocolate-patchouli signature of Tom Ford Black Orchid, capturing the general dark-gourmand mood, but the dupe's truffle and incense read simpler and less resinous than the original's dense, layered composition.

About

Orchid Noir is Scentleys' extrait interpretation of Tom Ford's Black Orchid, the 2006 fragrance that redefined the dark-floral-gourmand genre and remains one of the most recognised bottles in modern perfumery. The dupe opens with a fruity black currant and ylang-ylang burst touched by black truffle and bergamot, aiming for the original's unusual, slightly earthy opening before moving into an orchid and gardenia heart layered with spices. The base is where Black Orchid does most of its work, and Orchid Noir follows with patchouli, dark chocolate, incense, vanilla and sandalwood, chasing the thick, resinous, almost edible richness that makes the original so distinctive. The black currant-truffle opening and the chocolate-patchouli base give Orchid Noir a genuinely dark, gourmand-leaning character that is recognisably in the same family as Black Orchid from the first application. The gap opens in the middle and later stages, where Tom Ford's incense and patchouli build into a dense, almost smoky resinous wall that Scentleys' version does not fully replicate, settling instead into a simpler sweet-woody finish. Performance is strong for an oil extrait, six to eight hours with confident initial projection. A worthwhile introduction to the dark-floral-gourmand category for wearers not ready to commit to the pricier Tom Ford original.
