Duchaufour is known for his experimental approach, especially with incense, and his mastery in blending unconventional notes to create rich, textured fragrances that balance modernity and timelessness.
Bertrand Duchaufour is a prolific French perfumer celebrated for his impact on both mainstream and niche perfumery. He began his career in 1985 at Lautier Florasynth in Grasse, later working at Créations Aromatiques and Symrise, where he refined his skills as a fine fragrance nose. Duchaufour's first signed fragrance, Amber & Lavender for Jo Malone, was launched in 1995, marking the start of a remarkable creative journey. He has since created scents for a broad range of houses, including Penhaligon's, Acqua di Parma, Comme des Garçons, Givenchy, Christian Dior, and many others. In 2008, Duchaufour became an independent perfumer, collaborating directly with brands and serving as house perfumer for L'Artisan Parfumeur, where he crafted numerous influential fragrances such as Timbuktu, Dzongkha, Nuit de Tubereuse, and Fleur de Liane. His portfolio also includes celebrated creations for Aedes de Venustas, The Vagabond Prince, MDCI Parfums, Neela Vermeire Creations, Naomi Goodsir, and more. Renowned for his innovative use of ingredients-especially incense-and his ability to construct complex, multi-layered compositions, Duchaufour's work has garnered critical acclaim and shaped the modern landscape of niche perfumery.
