Multiple sources describe Nomura’s style as minimalist, sensitive and rooted in her Japanese background. She favors woods, especially vetiver and cedarwood reminiscent of hinoki, and often builds very short formulas where every raw material has a clear role and nothing is extraneous. Travel and nature are recurring themes, as seen in creations like Hinoki Forest, and she seeks a quiet, understated but emotionally impactful olfactory signature.
Chiaki Nomura is a Japanese perfumer based in New York and working for IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances). She first studied pharmacy in Tokyo, then earned a master’s degree in cosmetics and fragrances through ISIPCA in Versailles and the University of Plymouth in England. Nomura joined IFF as a trainee perfumer in 2006, became a junior perfumer in 2008, and has worked as a perfumer across New York, São Paulo and Tokyo, including beauty care and specialty categories. Her work includes fine fragrance collaborations such as Vince Camuto Fiori (2013), which was nominated for a Fragrance Foundation Award, and projects for brands like Bath & Body Works and Scents of Wood. She has lived in six countries on four continents and has traveled to more than 40 countries, experiences she cites as key inspirations for her compositions.
