Interviews around Zoologist Beaver and Elephant highlight his interest in animalic and naturalistic effects, such as using a high-quality recreation of beaver castoreum to achieve a leathery-musk, faintly sour nuance in Beaver, and constructing vivid, nature-inspired accords for Elephant. About
Chris J M Bartlett was a British perfumer and founder of Pell Wall Perfumes, based in Shropshire, England. According to Pell Wall’s official site, he created the brand and combined work as a creative perfumer with running an ingredients supply business, selling materials in smaller quantities to other perfumers and enthusiasts. In interviews with Zoologist Perfumes, Bartlett is credited as the perfumer of Zoologist Beaver (launched 2014) and Zoologist Elephant, and he noted that he also ran teaching workshops and occasionally took on interns, making education a formal part of his practice. Victor Wong of Zoologist confirmed publicly that he collaborated with Bartlett on Beaver and Elephant. Community reports on Basenotes state that Bartlett died of a heart attack at age 62 on 9 July 2024.
