Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab
Story-led perfume oils that turn myths, books and characters into scent. Dark vanilla, amber, incense, musk and patchouli recur, with food and candy notes in lighter blends.
Elizabeth Moriarty Barrial, known as Beth, is the founder of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, an American perfume house she owns with Brian Constantine. The business was established in 2000 and has sold online since 2002.
The house says its scents are created in-house by Barrial or Constantine and blended by hand. Barrial writes about Snake Oil, the house's first perfume, as one of her first creations and the scent she wore on her wedding day. She also describes Dorian as a scent created for a loved one and inspired by Oscar Wilde's character.
Her perfumes draw on mythology, folklore, literature, art and gothic and pagan ideas. The lab's catalogue grew from there into seasonal, monthly and licensed releases. The sources do not say who blended each individual scent, so only Snake Oil and Dorian are credited to her here.
No formal perfumery school or training house is named in the sources, so none is claimed.
