Histoires de Parfums
Frequently uses warm spices and aromatic herbs influenced by his Franco-Moroccan background, including cumin, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves, as showcased in Histoires de Parfums 1876 and 1969. Works conceptually with narrative and date- or character-based themes, and sometimes employs minimal or de-branded presentation, as in the blue-bottle “This Is Not A Blue Bottle 1/.1” to foreground the fragrance itself.
Gérald Ghislain is a French perfumer and founder of the Paris-based niche house Histoires de Parfums, which he launched around 2000 as an “olfactive library” of scents inspired by historical characters, dates and artistic themes. He originally trained in hospitality at the École Hôtelière of Toulouse and worked as a chef and restaurant owner before retraining in perfumery at ISIPCA in Versailles. Ghislain grew up between southern France and Morocco, an upbringing that fed his affinity for spices and aromatic herbs. He has expanded his creative direction beyond Histoires de Parfums to projects such as The Scent of Departure and Alice & Peter, and developed concept-driven collections like “This Is Not A Blue Bottle,” whose first fragrance, 1/.1, is presented in an unbranded blue bottle to focus attention purely on the scent. Within Histoires de Parfums he has highlighted spices such as cumin and cinnamon in 1876 and cardamom and cloves in 1969, explicitly linking these accords to his culinary and North African influences.
