Jacques Polge is a renowned French perfumer, born on 14 June 1943 in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France. After studying English and literature at Aix-Marseille University, Polge began a traditional apprenticeship in Grasse under the guidance of Jean Carles, immersing himself in the heartland of French perfumery. He is celebrated primarily for his remarkable tenure as Head Perfumer at Chanel, a position he held from 1978 to 2015. During his time at Chanel, Polge crafted an impressive array of iconic fragrances, modernizing and expanding the brand's olfactory identity for a new generation. His contributions include the creation of such celebrated scents as Coco, Égoïste, Allure, Coco Mademoiselle, Chance, and Bleu de Chanel, as well as several entries in Les Exclusifs de Chanel. Polge's influence extended beyond Chanel, with earlier works for Yves Saint Laurent and Emanuel Ungaro. Awarded the Ordre national du Mérite, his legacy is further continued by his son, Olivier Polge, who succeeded him at Chanel.
