United Kingdom Born 0 Creed

Per the house archive, his work belongs to the 18th-century English tradition of scented leather and citrus-aromatic cologne tonics, exemplified by leather-and-bergamot constructions made for the royal household.

About

James Henry Creed is credited by the House of Creed as the founder of its London tailoring firm in 1760, opening premises on Conduit Street in Mayfair during the accession year of King George III. The house heritage narrative places him as the first generation of the Creed dynasty, expanding from bespoke tailoring into scented leather goods and ultimately bespoke fragrance for the British court. Independent historical documentation predating the 1970s is scarce, so much of his life is known only through Creed corporate retelling.
