Frequently associated with aromatic fougère and classical chypre structures, Latty worked within a refined French style, exemplified by the aromatic-citrus masculines Yves Saint Laurent Pour Homme and Jazz, the green chypre Givenchy III, and the rich woody-oriental Davidoff Zino. His later work with Téo Cabanel, such as Oha, shows a polished, traditional French floral-chypre signature.
Jean-François Latty was a French perfumer trained at the Roure Perfume Institute / Roure Bertrand Dupont in Grasse, where he began his career before working for major houses including Roure, IFF and Takasago. Over nearly five decades in perfumery, he became closely associated with aromatic fougère structures. Among his best-known creations are Yves Saint Laurent Pour Homme (Yves Saint Laurent, 1971) and Jazz (Yves Saint Laurent, 1988), as well as classic compositions such as Givenchy III (Givenchy, 1970, co‑created with Raymond Chaillan and Y. Gerrold), Roma (Laura Biagiotti, 1988), Zino (Davidoff, 1986), Eau Dynamisante (Clarins, 1987) and several fragrances for Téo Cabanel, including Oha (2005).
