Duriez is associated with an elegant, contemporary classical style built around high‑quality raw materials. In his own house he explores sophisticated woods (as in Bois Froissés and the W/OOD collection), airy yet structured aromatics (L’Illusiomagiste, Double‑Fond) and nuanced, resinous ambers (Mes fleurs d’ambre), often favoring clarity of structure and refined balances over loud effects.
Jean-Michel Duriez is a French master perfumer who began working as a professional “nose” in 1986. He served as in‑house perfumer for Jean Patou and later for Rochas, and has authored fragrances for brands such as Jean Patou, Yohji Yamamoto, Lacoste, Escada, Dolce & Gabbana and Rochas. After three decades creating for major houses, he founded his own brand, Jean‑Michel Duriez Paris, in 2016. Under his eponymous label he has launched perfumes including L’Étoile et le Papillon and the 2017 trio Bois Froissés, L’Illusiomagiste and Double‑Fond, as well as further creations like Ombres Furtives and Mes fleurs d’ambre. He is noted for insisting on high‑quality raw materials used at carefully judged concentrations.
