About

Jean-Paul Guerlain stands as a legendary figure in the world of perfumery, celebrated for his role as the last family master perfumer of the historic Guerlain house. Born in 1937 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, he is the grandson of Jacques Guerlain and was immersed in the craft from an early age. Despite losing his sight at sixteen, Jean-Paul honed his olfactory skills and began his career at Guerlain in 1955, under the guidance of his uncle, Jean-Jacques Guerlain. Rising through the ranks from humble beginnings, he became the creative force behind many of the brand’s modern classics. His compositions, such as Vetiver, Samsara, Champs Elysées, and the Aqua Allegoria collection, showcase his talent for blending tradition with innovation. Beyond perfumery, Jean-Paul also played a significant role in the company’s management, serving as chairman from 1988 to 1996 and driving Guerlain’s international expansion. His work has left an indelible mark on the fragrance industry, ensuring the Guerlain legacy endures.
