Maya Njie is a London-based perfumer, photographer and designer who founded her own niche fragrance line under the name Maya Njie. Raised in Sweden with Gambian heritage, she draws heavily on her dual Swedish and West African background when composing scents, a point highlighted by retailers such as Liberty London and Ministry of Scent. Her fragrances are handcrafted in small batches in her London studio and are conceived as olfactory interpretations of family photographs and childhood memories, particularly 1970s Scandinavian settings combined with elements of Gambian culture. She initially studied art and gained a degree in London before moving into perfumery, using smell as a medium to preserve and reinterpret personal history.
